Put To Flight Powers of Darkness

Overcoming Addictions and Bad Habits

Wanting to stop, but keep going? Wanting to be free, but held captive. Wanting to change, but remaining the same. So, it is with the life of a person who is bound by addictions.  The person is “literally” a slave to the forces of sin.  It does not matter the person’s title, position, or status in life, if a habit or addiction has them, they are still a prisoner to sin.

The person may deceive themselves into thinking that they have the power to stop anytime they want to stop. The truth of the matter is they do not.  Stopping is easier said than done. Here is the litmus test, to see if they have power over it; tell them to stop it for just three years straight.  If they can stop it “by sheer will” for three years straight (without secretly doing it) then they are free from that captivity. But if they do it even once within three years, then they are still bound.  True freedom allows you to walk away from something for not just three years but a lifetime.

The question is not how did I get into this situation? The journey of life can be tough with many ups and downs, with twists and turns. Dark forces and evil entities are laying traps and snares all along the path.  It is only a matter of time before one is snared, entangled, and taken captive along the broad way of life.  Yet there is hope in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ has power in His Blood to free anybody from any habit or addiction.  The Power contained in His blood is unmatched by any earthly power or by any dark force.  The Blood of Jesus Christ has the power to wash away every habit of sin.  The Bible says in Isaiah 1:18  “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Jesus Christ died on the Cross, shed his precious blood, and rose from the grave to give us true freedom from sin, addictions, habits, bondage, and captivity.  The Bible says in Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” It means that once you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you participate in the great prisoner exchange program.Jesus Christ takes your life of sin and gives you His life of righteousness and true holiness.  You activate the power of His life within you by truly believing that His Life is in you.  Therefore if that habit or addiction can not hold Jesus Christ captive, then it can not hold you captive.  Once you believe it in your heart and confess it with your mouth, things will begin to change for you.

So, what should you do? Cry out to Jesus Christ to forgive you of the sin.  Ask Him to wash you completely in His precious Blood. With your heart believe that the Blood of Jesus can and will free you. Then keep confessing that you are washed in the blood of Jesus.  Once you truly believe it and confess it with confidence things begin to change.  As you keep doing it, you will notice that not only has Jesus set you free, but He has even taken away the desires for that addiction.  You will notice what the Bible says in John 8:36 “ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
